Following the successful jazz summer school at Chichester Uni – I am please to announce that I will be running a jazz piano and rhythm section weekend on the 6th and 7th of September at the Uni. I would like to open it to all rhythm section players (piano, bass and drums) and we will be studying different styles of rhythm section playing and having a go at playing the various styles ( from 1940s up to more modern approaches).

The course is aimed at both pianists who have had experience of playing jazz and non-pianists that want to grasp a firm understanding of chord voicings, basic accompanying in various jazz styles. There will be two small groups: Pianists and Non-Pianists and we will work on specific techniques of jazz piano including: combo/group playing, comping styles (a look at how different, well known pianists comp) soloing styles, building a solo, transcribing, soloing over blues/rhythm changes, advanced voicings and substitutions. The group for the non-pianists will cover more basic skills, playing II-V-Is with idiosyncratic voicings, two handed voicings, blues playing and walking bass lines.

The course is open for a maximum of 8 pianists (4 beginners, and 4 intermediate/advanced) and four bassists and drummers. Places will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis. Cost of the course is £89.00 Please drop me a line if you are interested, want to book a place or have any questions. Please forward this to anyone who you think would be interested. Many

thanks,
